Men hoping for some fireworks in their love life this Fourth of July may want to skip the burgers and beer at the barbecue and eat plenty of watermelon.

Watermelon may be a natural Viagra, says a researcher. That's because the popular summer fruit is richer than experts believed in an amino acid called citrulline, which relaxes and dilates blood vessels much like Viagra and other drugs meant to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

Horny Goat Weed (also called Epimedium or Yin Yang Huo) is a Chinese herbal preparation used for the treatment of sexual dysfunction. It is also used for maintaining kidney health. Chinese legends claim Horny Goat Weed got its name when a shepherd noticed his goats became particularly sexually active after eating the leaves of the Epimedium plant.

Various studies have been carried out on the aphrodisiac properties of plants, for example, an American Psychosomatic Society (1998) report said, in studies, certain scents were found to change the blood flow to the genital area in women and men. For men, the bizarre combination of liquorice and donut scent increased blood flow to the penis by 32%. Not as dramatic as the combined smell of lavender and pumpkin found to increase the flow of blood to the penis by up to 40%.

In most countries chocolate is associated with romance, and with good reason, it was thought by the Aztec's to have aphrodisiac qualities, invigorating men and making women less inhibited. So when it was first introduced to Europe, it's small wonder that chocolate quickly became the ideal gift for a man to bestow on a loved one.

The hagfish - interestingly named is considered an aphrodisiac. It slimes its enemies, has rows of teeth on its tongue, and feeds on the innards of rotting fish by penetrating any orifice. But cooked and served on a plate, it is considered an aphrodisiac in South Korea.

The 14- to 18-inch hagfish looks like an eel. Hagfish has a modest following among older Korean men who savor it as an appetizer broiled in sesame oil, sprinkled with salt and accompanied by a shot of liquor.
